Neighborhood Properties, Inc. celebrates 20th Anniversary

Toledo: Neighborhood Properties, Inc. (NPI) celebrated its 20th anniversary and recognized nine NPI employees and a mental health facility at its recent annual dinner at the Toledo Hilton.

NPI was founded in 1988 to end homelessness for those with behavioral health challenges. The non-profit offers supportive housing to customers who can live independently but need help occasionally with living skills, neighbor relations or other matters. The agency owns 550 apartments at 80 different sites around Toledo.

Juanita Halbig-Sánchez

Tenant Services Manager Juanita Halbig-Sánchez, LSW, was honored for “going the extra mile” in the areas of leadership and advocacy. She has been working with people who live with mental illness for over 17 years in Toledo. She joined the NPI team in 2000 and brings the right blend of compassion and toughness to her relationships with NPI tenants. 1

Halbig-Sánchez’s staff has described her as “a real leader in the face of numerous accounts of adversity… the role model of the person I aspire to be” and “the best, most hard working boss I have ever had. She is an exceptional supervisor and advocate.”

Other employees receiving recognition were: Janet Grine, Site Manager at Fostoria Junction; the NPI Janitorial Crew, including Manager Scott Main and members Melvin Johnson, Richard Liegl, Marcia Miller and Tim Miller; Safe Haven Resident Manager Barbara Stovall; and Central Avenue Office Receptionist Rhonda Walton.

NPI gave a community award to Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare for its excellent focus on advocacy and recovery. Northcoast is ahead of the curve in offering the best tools to its customers, who live with severe and persistent mental illness. The Partners in Recovery group brings patients together with consumers living successfully in the community for discussion, education and hope. Northcoast was the first inpatient setting to offer the best practice Wellness Management & Recovery program.
