La Fiebre about 1993 in Toledo with fans

LatinoFest is on June 14 at the Fairgrounds with La Fiebre, La Tropa F, y más

The 8th Annual LatinoFest is scheduled this Saturday, June 14, 2008, from 1:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. at the Lucas County Fairgrounds on Key Street in Maumee, Ohio—rain or shine.   Headlining bands feature La Tropa F out of San Antonio, Texas and La Fiebre of Pasadena, Texas. Mariachi, Tejano and Banda bands also perform, starting at 1:00PM.

La Tropa F is comprised of members of the musical Farias family. Already with several recordings under their collective belt, they signed to the Manny Music label in 1990, scoring their breakthrough hit with the chart-topping “Mil Noches.”  In 1992, La Tropa F won the “Best Local Conjunto” award at the first annual “Pura Vida” Hispanic Music Awards; a year later, they also won the committee’s “Best Conjunto” award, that same year taking home “Conjunto of the Year” honors at the 13th Annual Tejano Music Awards.

La Fiebre started out as a rock band. They had a couple of member changes in the early 1980s and decided to try Tejano. Their first album, Contagious, exploded and the rest is pretty much history. Noted for their powerful upbeat rancheras and energetic stage performances and awesome light shows, La Fiebre went on to become a top Tejano super group.

The festival features over 20 Latino food and merchandise vendors.  The “Family Time” activity area will feature pony rides, clowns, magicians, a children’s activity tent, an exhibit from the Toledo Zoo complete with live animals, dancers and more.  This year’s festival features celebrity TV and radio personalities, a low rider exhibition, and new car display.

The Fest also hosts its first annual Salsa Tasting Challenge—Nine area restaurants and salsa distributors will by vying for the best mild, hot, and specialty salsa as well as the People’s Choice Award for best overall tasting salsa in the area. Free salsa samples will be given away during the competition.  Winners will be announced at 5:00 p.m. on the main stage.

A Mexican dance party will follow the reception from 8:30-midnight featuring Grupo Dezeo Admission for the dance party is $6 at the door.
