Conyers announces “Vote for Change”

May 10, 2008: The Obama campaign announced Vote for Change kickoff events on Saturday, May 10, 2008, in various parts of Michigan.

Vote for Change is a 50-state voter registration and mobilization drive. It is aimed at getting millions more U.S.-Americans involved ahead of the November election. More than 100 events will be held across the nation. Obama volunteers will register new voters as part of a six-month voter registration drive.

“From now until November 4th, we must be focused on the next President of the United States, in Michigan and around the world,” said U.S. Congressman John Conyers. “This is a historical task that we’re committed to make happen.”

Senator Barack Obama has brought a new excitement to this election. All across the country his message of change has prompted record numbers of first-time voters to participate in the democratic process,” said Virgie Rollins, Chair of the Black Caucus of the Democratic National Committee and National Co-chair for Obama.

“Michiganders for Obama volunteers have been working for Senator Obama the last 16 months,” said Christina Montague statewide coordinator for Michiganders for Obama. “We are doing our part to make sure every eligible Michigan citizen is registered to vote so they can participate in the general election in November."

There were four Michigan “Vote for Change” events in Detroit, Ann Arbor, Flint, and Grand Rapids. To find out more about the national Vote for Change kickoff events go to http://my.barackobama.com/voteforchange.
