Two will receive the Trail Blazer Award, a bronze sculpture by area artist Robert García.
Sofia Quintero, the first Latina elected to the Toledo School Board, and Judge Joseph A. Flores, the first Latino elected to the Bench in Toledo/Lucas County, opened doors for other Latinos in the political arena and advocated for Latino representation at all levels of government and political office.
The nominees for 2008 have either accomplished a first for Latino representation (Anita López, Robert Martínez, and Margarita DeLeón), opened political doors for other Latinos (Robert Torres and Connie Eason),or made significant contributions in public service (María Rodríguez, Gary Johnson).
On May 3rd, 5PM to Midnight, the Caucus hosts its annual Cinco de Mayo Fundraising event at the Sofia Quintero Arts and Cultural Center, 1225 Broadway, Toledo. There will be a Latin dance contest with cash prizes and celebrity DJs Andrew Z and Tony Rios.
The reception starts at 5PM with comida mexicana and silent auction, followed by the dance contest at 6PM. Entry fee for the dance contest is $20 per couple. To enter the dance contest contact Tracey Martínez at 419-255-3445. The costs of the 8PM-Midnight baile DJed by Tony Rios is $10.
