Detroit police union files grievance over TV removal

DETROIT, April 12, 2008 (AP): The union representing Detroit police officers isn’t pleased with a decision by the department to remove TVs from some police buildings while leaving them in areas used by command staff.

Cheryl Smith, sergeant at arms for the Detroit Police Officers Association, tells the Detroit Free Press that a grievance was delivered Friday to the police chief centering on unfair treatment and unfair labor practices.

Smith says if TVs are going to be removed from police buildings they also should be removed command staff areas.

Police spokesman James Tate declined to comment.
