Terra, Heidelberg offer dual enrollment opportunities
Terra Community College in Fremont, Ohio and Heidelberg College in Tiffin are offering students new dual enrollment opportunities.
With the Dual Admissions and Enrollment program, students can begin their college education at Terra while simultaneously getting a start at Heidelberg.
Beginning in the fall semester 2008:
• Students may apply to the Dual Admission program directly out of high school or as a college transfer. In either case, the student begins by completing an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree at Terra and then transfers to Heidelberg to finish a bachelor’s degree.
• While enrolled at Terra, the student may enroll in one class each semester at Heidelberg for a maximum of four semesters. Heidelberg will charge the student at the same tuition rate as Terra, which is substantially less.
• All Terra general education and other non-remedial courses in which the student receives a “C” or better will transfer and be applied toward fulfilling degree requirements at Heidelberg.
• Both institutions will issue a student ID to dual enrollment students and both will offer academic advising.
• Students can participate in events, organizations and activities at both campuses.
Heidelberg is offering a $2,000 partnership grant to all dual admission students, in addition to the $4,000 Transfer Academic Grant or the Phi Theta Kappa Merit Scholarship award of $6,000.
Officials at both Terra and Heidelberg are enthused about the program. “I’m as excited about this as I’ve been about anything in education for a long time,” said Terra Associate Dean Jim Willey, who, with Susan Stine, associate director of admission at Heidelberg, developed the agreement.
“We know Terra will give these students a solid foundation,” said Vicki Ohl, Heidelberg’s associate vice president for academic affairs. “We’ll be able to offer academic and cultural opportunities they otherwise might not have had. We can offer them some academic and career direction, allow them to plan more and dream bigger dreams.”
