Boys prepare so sing, with the Ohio Boychoir
Cleveland: The Ohio Boychoir has announced its annual open house for potential concert and training choir members for Monday, March 3, 2008, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. All boys ages 7 to “voice-change” are invited to participate. Boys will learn and expand upon their knowledge of singing fundamentals and prepare to join the Ohio Boychoir Concert Choir.
According to organizers, no singing experience is necessary.
Musical techniques such as solfege, rhythm, texts of hymns, basics of diction, pitch motion, note values, score readiness, fermata, vocalization exercises, and performance preparation will be studied under the direction of Music Director Dr. David Kienzle.
Kienzel is a native of Canton, Ohio, and holds a doctorate in the Literature and Performance Practice of the Organ from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati; a Masters in organ performance from Kent State University; and a Baccalaureate degree in organ performance from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey.
Dr. Kienzel is Director of Music and Fine Arts at Christ Presbyterian Church in Canton and has performed on four concert tours of Germany; he has served as adjudicator for several organ competitions, and as a consultant for churches seeking professional musicians.
According to organizers, the Ohio Boychoir has been “enriching boys’ lives through music” since 1974. The choir has performed in venues from neighborhood churches to concert halls cathedrals across North America, Europe, and Australia. Ohio Boychoir programs offer boys, ages 7 to “voice-change,” opportunities to further their musical education, to increase self-confidence, and to develop good citizenship through community service activities.
The Open House for interested Training Choir Ohio Boychoir Members takes place at the United Methodist Church, 190 Seminar St., Berea, Ohio on March 3, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. For additional information: www.ohioboychoir.org or 216.556.2222.
