WGTE Public Media announces the Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest
For the 14th year, WGTE Public Media is welcoming children from northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan to participate in the Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest. Children in kindergarten through third grade are invited to write and illustrate their own storybooks.
The contest is based upon the literacy-oriented PBS Kids series Reading Rainbow, hosted by LeVar Burton. Reading Rainbow airs on WGTE TV Sunday mornings at 7:00 a.m (Toledo).
Entry materials and contest rules are available through WGTE’s Educational Resource Center at 419-380-4632 or toll free at 1-888-477-4ERC. Entry forms and contest rules are also available online at www.wgte.org/rainbow.
WGTE will accept entries January 16, 2008 through March 10, 2008. First, second and third place winners from each grade level will be announced in April. Local winners' stories will be broadcast on WGTE TV and posted on wgte.org. Every participating child will receive a certificate of recognition signed by series host LeVar Burton.
All entrants will be invited to a special appreciation event at the WGTE Studios on Saturday, April 12, for children and their families. The first place winners’ storybooks in each grade level will be forwarded as entries in the national Reading Rainbow Contest. National winners will be announced in June 2008.
All entries must be postmarked by Friday, March 10, 2008 and must include a completed entry form.
