Senator Sherrod Brown at The City Club of Cleveland

CLEVELAND: U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown, sworn in as Ohio’s junior senator on January 4, 2007, will speak at noon on Monday, January 29, 2007, at The City Club of Cleveland.

A resident of Avon Lake, Brown has been considered one of the leading progressive voices in U.S. Congress. As a U.S. Representative from 1993 to 2007, he fought trade agreements that threaten U.S.-American jobs, undermine environmental safeguards and eliminate workplace safety protections.

Author of Myths of Free Trade and a fierce critic of NAFTA, Brown believes international trade agreements should include protections for workers in the United States and across the globe, including fair wages, decent working conditions and the right to unionize.

The American Public Health Association recognized Congressman Brown with its Distinguished Public Health Legislator of the Year Award for 2002. A native of Mansfield, Brown is a graduate of Yale University and Ohio State University. He served two terms as Ohio’s Secretary of State and four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.
