En el pasado Guzmán fue director de la Oficina de Servicios de Igualdad de Oportunidades, del Departamento de Servicios Públicos y del Departamento de Salud Pública en Cleveland Ohio, donde trabajo bajo el actual alcalde Jane Campbell y el ex-alcalde Mike White. El también tiene una amplia experiencia en el Gobierno de Estado, sirvió bajo el mando del ex-gobernador Richard F. Celeste, como sub-director del Departamento de Control de Alcohol y como Director de la Commisión de Estado/Local Gubernamental.
Nació en Puerto Rico, Guzmán creció en Youngstown, donde comenzó su carrera como director ejecutivo de la Organización Civil y Cultural Hispano-Americana.
Guzmán fue condecorado como Veterano de Vietnam, recibiendo “El Corazón Purpura” y la “Estrella de Bronze” por su valor. También recibió del Presidente Jimmy Carter el Premio Presidencial por su Participación Comunitaria.
Guzmán y su esposa, Nydia, tiene cuatro hijos, ya crecidos y nueve nietos.
Henry Guzmán is new director of Ohio Dept. of Public Safety
Henry Guzmán has been selected as the department’s new director, according to Nancy J. Dragani, Acting Director of the Ohio Dept. of Public Safety. Guzmán currently serves as the Director of Public Service for the City of Columbus. Ohio Governor Ted Strickland made the announcement on Monday.
Guzmán is a former director of the Office of Equal Opportunity, the Department of Public Service and the Department of Public Safety in Cleveland, Ohio, where he worked under current Mayor Jane Campbell and former Mayor Mike White. He also has extensive experience in state government, having served under former Governor Richard F. Celeste as a deputy director of the Department of Liquor Control and director of the State/Local Government Commission.
Born in Puerto Rico, Guzmán was raised in Youngstown, where he began his career as executive director of the Civic and Cultural Hispanic-American Organization.
Guzmán is a decorated Vietnam Veteran, having earned both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for valor. He also received the Presidential Award for Community Involvement from President Jimmy Carter.
Guzmán and his wife, Nydia, have four grown children and nine grandchildren.
