Nov. 28, 2007: ¡Hay Chihuahua! Is your dog loyal, helpful, or a hero like Lassie?  Does your dog know a lot of tricks and amaze your friends with his acrobatic ability like Rin Tin Tin?  We want to know what makes your dog unique and worthy of wearing the No. 1 Dog Tag for 2008. 

To kick-off the beginning of dog tag season, Lucas County Auditor Anita López will award one dog in Lucas County the distinction of wearing the No. 1 Dog Tag for 2008. Owners can nominate their dog by submitting an essay on Why My Dog is Number 1.  The winning dog will receive the No. 1 Tag for 2008, gratis, and their canine’s picture on all 2009 dog tag renewal forms.
 

The purpose for the contest is to promote responsible pet care and ownership throughout Lucas County.  Dog tags are required by law for all dogs over 3 months of age.  Dog tags for 2008 can be purchased from Dec. 1, 2007 through January 31, 2008 at the Auditors Office, Lucas County Dog Warden, or agents.

Licensing serves to protect your dog and will identify the owner so that the dog can be returned home if lost.  A complete list of contest rules can be found on the Auditor’s web page www.co.lucas.oh.us/auditor
