Comcast Foundation awards a $12,500 grant for Cristo Rey Child Services

 

Lansing: Comcast, based in Southfield, on Nov. 26, 2007, announced its donation of a $12,500 grant to the Cristo Rey Community Center in Lansing.  Made available through the Comcast Foundation, the grant will underwrite Cristo Rey’s Child Services programs.

 

“The Cristo Rey Community Center has been a leader in addressing important issues that our children face every day,” commented State Representative Joan Bauer, D-68. “Comcast’s generous contribution will enable the community center to accomplish its mission of giving our area youth a place to go after school where they can grow and develop positively.”

 

“We appreciate Comcast partnering with us to support our Child Services program. Their support helps us ensure our area students have a positive place to go after school and will learn skills and make friendships that will last a lifetime,” stated John Roy Castillo, executive director of Cristo Rey Community Center. “These funds will help to support our Drop-in Center, KIDS Kamp, Computer Lab and tutoring initiatives.”

 

According to Comcast, Cristo Rey provides “a unique center where area children and youth congregate after school and throughout the summer when schools are not in session. The Child Services program offers creative social and recreational activities that provide North Lansing children with access to a variety of services that develop interpersonal skills and positive outcome later in life. The Child Services program provides activities for more than 200 children ages five and up after school from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.”

 

Established in 1969, Cristo Rey Community Center serves 22,000 persons annually with diverse community services. These services include: a medical health clinic, prescription programs, senior and community kitchens, youth programs, diversion programs, employment and training programs, counseling programs, direct assistance, food bank, disability service, English and Spanish as a second language classes, and parenting programs.
