Thank You Voters from the Library!
The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library wants to thank all of the voters of Lucas County who overwhelmingly passed Issue 16, the Library’s 2-mill, 5-year replacement levy on the November 6, 2007 ballot.
Voters who cast their ballots demonstrated their support for the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library’s Issue 16, by voting for the measure, which will bring in $18.3 million annually to the system from 2008 through 2012.
“We had faith in the voters of Lucas County, but we certainly did not take anything for granted during this election. Our supporters, volunteers, staff and loyal patrons made sure that Issue 16, a levy vital to help maintain operations, passed. Our system is the people’s Library and that’s clearly what the voters demonstrated when they casts their votes,” said Clyde Scoles, Library Director.
According to the Lucas County Board of Elections, Issue 16 passed by nearly 67 percent of the 83,681 total votes casts for the measure. Margaret Danziger, Library Deputy Director, said Lucas County voters demonstrated at the polls that they are proud of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, which was ranked one of the top ten libraries in the nation.
“We wanted to maintain all of the wonderful benefits that this system has to offer to its patrons and now we will be able to do that with the passage of Issue 16. We are grateful to all of the voters of Lucas County who made a statement loud and clear that they will not allow their Library to go backwards in time,” said Danziger.
“Everyone benefits and our community is a better place to live with passage of Issue 16,” she added.
The Library will use funds from the 2-mill, 5-year levy for operational purposes beginning in 2008. Issue 16 replaced two 1-mill levies that will both expire at the end of the year. State funding provides nearly half of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library’s budget.
