Romero elected chair of OCHLA

On October 19, 2007, Richard Romero was elected Chair of the Ohio Commission of Hispanic/Latino Affairs. Romero previously served as vice chair of OCHLA. With the new budget put in place by Governor Ted Strickland, Romero believes the commission will be able to effectively serve and impact the Latino community. The three areas in which the commission will focus on include: Ohio’s emerging diversity, education, and workforce & economic development.

Romero informed La Prensa, “Using technology, we are rolling out OLAnet, a project which will allow the community to talk to each other and connect with the commission. Now through OLAnet you will be able to find what’s going on and where and how to find out about it.”

The commission acts as advisors to the office of the Governor and Ohio’s representatives, but most of all the commission acts as the official state voice of the Latino community of Ohio.
