DARFUR Exhibit Opens in Detroit

The Detroit Public Library to host acclaimed digitally projected photo exhibit, DARFUR – DARFUR,
October 22-November 19, 2007

The Exhibit: DARFUR - DARFUR, a digitally projected photo exhibit by internationally acclaimed photojournalists, including a U.S. Marine, depicts the life and the killings of nearly 300,000 individuals in the war-torn area in Sudan’s western region of Darfur.

Lynsey Addario from Darfur

The exhibit has been created by a non-profit group to educate viewers about the multicultural population, demonstrate how the violence and mass killings have devastated the region and raise funds for humanitarian organizations that provide peace advocacy and ground relief for Darfur.

According to Darfur-Darfur, rebels and government-backed militia forces have killed an estimated 300,000 -400,000 people and displaced two million human beings since the Darfur conflict broke out in 2003. Not since the Rwanda genocide of 1994, has the world seen such a calculated campaign of slaughter, rape, starvation, and displacement.

Refreshments will be served, RSVPs appreciated. 313-833-4042.

The Exhibit opens to the public at 7:00 p.m. October 22 and will remain on display until November 19, 2007. For more information and a listing of related events, please call 313-833-4042 or visit our website at www.detroitpubliclibrary.org.
