Festivities began at noon with Yvonne Ramos singing the national anthem, followed by the match for third place between Michigan (Adrian MI) and BGSU (Bowling Green OH). BGSU won, 3 to 1.

Starting at 2:00PM, the championship game commenced between first place Dep. Holanda and Guadalupe, both from Toledo. Dep. Holanda won, 5 to 2, to retain its title of championship for the second consecutive year.

St. Francis de Sales LASSO provided refreshments at minimal cost.

After the event, Manuel Zapata, president of the league, and Geronimo Aranda, its vice president, passed out the awards to the winners.

Dep. Holanda’s goalie, Billy Stoner, received a trophy for the fewest goals scored against a goalie. Stoner won this award last year.

Guadalupe’s John García won an award for making the most goals.

According to Manuel Zapata, this is the 11th year of La Liga de Las Américas.

Zapata is looking forward to participating in this year’s Adelante Tournament, presented by Adelante, Inc., scheduled at Pacesetter Park in Sylvania OH, Oct. 20-21, 2007. See www.futboladelante.com.
