Konop hosts “Investing in Lucas County” roundtable for Chinese delegation

Lucas County Commissioner Ben Konop hosted a roundtable presentation designed to promote area business to a delegation from Toledo’s  sister city Qinhuangdao, China.

The Roundtable was held in the Commissioner’s Conference Room on the 8th Floor of One Government Center on May 15, 2007. The Chinese delegation was made of government and business leaders including its mayor, Ruiting Jian. Qinhuangdao is a port city of nearly three million people several hours north of Beijing.

This roundtable forum is a follow up to Commissioner Konop’s recent self-financed trip to China where he promoted investment opportunities in Lucas County.

“For too long, we have seen jobs and investment leave Lucas County for China on a one-way ticket over the Pacific,” stated Commissioner Konop.  “It’s time that we as a community asserted ourselves in the global economy and looked for ways to profit and create jobs here of our relationship with the Chinese,” added Konop.

Area businesses scheduled to present include: Spartan Logistics, Roamer Industries, and the Lathrop Corporation.

“These strong local businesses see the potential for job creation right here in Lucas County based attracting overseas investment and cooperation,” noted Konop.  “I’m happy to be playing a part in facilitating this potential job growth for the citizens of our community,” opined Commissioner Konop.
