Two Evenings with author MIKE FERNER

Mike Ferner, author of Inside the Red Zone: A Veteran for Peace Reports from Iraq (Praeger Publishers, 2006), will be featured at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library’s Point Place Branch, 2727 117th Street, and again on Monday, June 4, 2007, at the Sanger Branch, 3030 W. Central Avenue, Toledo.

Ferner, former Independent member of Toledo City Council and former Toledo Mayoral candidate, was in Iraq with a peace delegation just one month before the United States invasion in 2003.  He returned in 2004 for two months as a freelance writer.  Inside the Red Zone is about Ferner’s experiences on those trips.

The title of Ferner’s book refers to the Red Zone, the area outside of the protected zone from which most media cover the war.  During the Vietnam War Ferner served as a Navy Hospital Corpsman, was discharged as a conscientious objector, and is now a member of the executive committee of Veterans For Peace.  Ferner’s book will be available for Library checkout and for purchase.
