“Ballet Tapestry of American Music” presented May 30, 31

The Toledo Ballet presents “Ballet Tapestry of American Music,” a show inspired by all the musical fabrics within the U.S.-American landscape. This new production features composers from Gershwin to Ellington.

World-renowned choreographers have worked together, along with talent from local dancers throughout northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, to create a unique show. Gen Horiuchi, one of the award-winning choreographers, has received international acclaim. He has choreographed the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan in 1998, was a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet, and was trained by George Balanchine.

“I wanted to present the idea that different forms of dance like Jazz, modern and musical theater and ballet all share a common thread. We are showcasing the different dance styles in a surprising and fun way. It’s so much more than your average ballet,” said Michael Lang, a choreographer and creator of “Ballet Tapestry.”

Performances of “Ballet Tapestry of American Music” are Wednesday, May 30 and Thursday, May 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the Franciscan Center at Lourdes College. For tickets, call the Franciscan Center at 419.824.3999.
