Cinco de Mayo celebrations this sábado with coronation of Isabel Sánchez-Morales


Lorain: The Mexican Mutual Society, celebrating its 79th year, will host its annual Cinco de Mayo Festival, Parade, and Coronation this Saturday, May 5, 2007.


This year’s Cinco de Mayo Little Queen is Isabel Sánchez-Morales, 6-year-old daughter of Gabriella Morales & Ezequel Sánchez. Grandparents are Tony & Patricia Morales.

According to Marie Leibas, the Club’s coordinator and treasurer, Isabel’s escort is Vince Morales. Isabel attends Homewood Elementary and likes bike riding and singing.


Isabel will reign in the Cinco de Mayo Parade, which begins at 4:15PM from Lincoln School, 31 & Vine Streets. The parade then travels east on 31st to Seneca, south to Homewood Dr, west to Pearl Avenue, then south on Pearl onward to Sacred Heart Church, 4301 Pearl Avenue.

The parade features the Little Queen Court, Mariachi Cora from Croswell, Michigan, horses, drill teams, bands y mucho más. The Mariachi band continues to entertain in the church’s hall until 7:00PM.


The Princess this year is Nyana Espitia, 6-year-old daughter of Robert & Heidi Espitia. Grandparents are Robert & María Espitia. Nyana’s escort is Xavier Purdo.


The Grand Duchess is Marlena Jacinto, 8-year-old daughter of Marco & Vanessa Jacinto. Grandparents are Tony & Carmen Jacinto. Marlena’s escort is Ricardo Marrero.


Duchess 1 is Ayla Amador, 5-year-old daughter of Matt & Cherron Amador. Grandparents are Ramón & Debbie Amador.


Duchess 2 is María Garnica, 9-year-old daughter of Natalie Verdin & Juan Garnica Reyes. María’s escort is Alex Zaca.


Isabel will receive her crown, trophy and roses at her coronation, which takes place at the Cinco de Mayo Program and Dance at 7:00PM, at the Sacred Heart Church Hall. The Alma de México dancers will be performing and the baile starts at 8:00PM, with music by Conjunto Alegra. Dinner is from 6:00 till 8:00PM for $6 with cash bar.
