St. Ursula Academy volunteers donate more than 2,000 hours prior to Earth Day
Toledo: Over six-hundred students and faculty from St. Ursula Academy spent Friday, April 20, 2007 participating in a Day of Caring, by painting, gardening, and helping with spring cleaning—two days prior to Earth Day 2007.
More than 15 organizations benefited from the volunteer work of St. Ursula, including: Toledo Metroparks, Catholic Club, Friendly Center, East Toledo Family Center, Grace Community Center, and Women Blessing Women.
“Our students learned a valuable lesson about the importance of giving back to others,” said Jane Charette, president of St. Ursula Academy. Kevin Shannon, Director of Campus Ministry at St. Ursula and Coordinator of the SUA Day of Caring added: “We challenge each student to be her best self and volunteering is an important ingredient to a well-rounded individual.”
United Way Volunteer Center helped organize the Day of Caring by matching groups of St. Ursula Academy students with volunteer projects at non-profit agencies throughout the community.
On September 5, 2007 United Way Volunteer Center will be hosting a three county wide, multi-organization Day of Caring as part of the kickoff to United Way’s 2007 annual campaign.
