Macy’s North seeks Community Partners for yearlong support
April 16, 2007: Macy’s North will award more than $350,000 to local non-profit organizations through Macy’s Gives Community Grants, a new community giving initiative developed to cultivate stronger partnerships between the community and its neighboring Macy’s store.
Each Macy’s store is seeking local non-profit organizations that are focused on enriching the lives of others in the community. The selected organizations that meet Macy’s funding guidelines will receive a $4,000 grant to fund programming and serve as the store’s community partner for a full year.
Throughout the year, Macy’s store associates will be available to volunteer with the partner organization. Macy’s Gives Community Grant recipients will have the opportunity to receive additional in-kind support on a case-by-case basis.
“As a local department store, Macy’s is committed to making a meaningful impact in the communities we serve by giving back financially as well as being a strong community partner that supports local giving goals and efforts,” said Frank Guzzetta, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s North.
Macy’s North awards grants to organizations with IRS 501(c) (3) certification and to units of local government. Grants are awarded based upon an evaluation of achieved results, continuing need and available funds. Macy’s does not fund grants for places of worship devoted solely to religious instruction.
Applications will be accepted for consideration April 16 through May 31, 2007, and can be picked up at any Macy’s North store as well as at www.macys.com/pressroom by clicking on Macy’s North.
For additional information, organizations should contact their local Macy’s store and ask to speak with the Store Grant Coordinator, or contact 612-375-2300. Grant funding will be announced in August 2007 and distributed in September 2007.
This fall, all 501(c) (3) non-profit organizations will have the opportunity to participate in Macy’s Shop for a Cause event on Oct. 13, 2007. This Macy’s event enables qualifying organizations to raise vital funds for their ongoing programs, making it one of Macy’s most sought after fundraising events. Shop for a Cause is a one day, exclusive shopping event designed to help support local, non-profit organizations and create a unique shopping experience.
Macy's will provide participating organizations with shopping passes to sell for $5 each. By purchasing the shopping pass, customers can support their favorite cause while enjoying an extraordinary day of discounts and events. All proceeds from the tickets sold will go directly to the participating organizations.
Macy’s North is based in Minneapolis and operates 64 stores in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. For additional information visit www.macys.com
