Javier wins: Javier Martínez of Lorain, Ohio, who is a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters Community Based program, came in first place out of one-hundred participants in a Kids Art Contest.
Javier’s artwork illustrated him and his big brother playing basketball on a nice summer day. Seven year old Javier was excited to hear that he was selected to have his bedroom refurbished by The Home Depot. Javier has been a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters Community based program for one year. Community-based mentoring is the traditional Big Brothers Big Sisters relationship, where Mentors and Littles get together on their own to share fun activities they both enjoy. Matches typically meet for one hour a week.

1 Getting together is a great time for both the Big and the Little. It doesn’t require a special occasion or expensive activities; just a few hours every month to share the simple things you already like to do.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lorain County and The Home Depot of Avon are working together to celebrate the civic responsibility of inspiring and engaging the youth of Lorain County to believe that anything is possible when you dream big dreams.
Shown above is Javier with family friend Abigail Medina, hermana Valeri Martínez, and Javier’s mother Sylvia García.
