La Liga de Las Americas

Adelante’s Fútbol Tournament moved to Schneider

The Adelante Soccer Tournament will take place this weekend, Oct. 7-8, 2006, but the location has been moved to the Schneider Soccer Complex in South Toledo, where La Liga de Las Américas have held their regular season games these past several years, according to Manuel Zapata, president of the league.

Zapata informed La Prensa that there would be 10-12 teams playing for prizes, including La Liga’s Dep. Holanda, Central Arcenal, the University of Toledo’s LSU, and the Halcones of Columbus.

Games start this Saturday, Oct. 7 at 9:00AM.

It is anticipated that there will be four full size fields in use. Games will be 11 v 11, with single referee [except the Sunday finals], with 45 minute halves on Saturday. There will be both a men's open and an over 40 bracket.

This is the first year of this soccer tournament, hosted by Adelante, Inc, to raise funds for the multicultural service oriented non-profit group, located in South Toledo. Sonia Troche is its executive director.

This year’s sponsors include National City Bank, Fremont Printing, and La Prensa, according to one of the organizers, Richard Parish.

For further information, contact Claudia of Adelante, Inc. at 419-244-8440 or Manuel Zapata at 419-345-2951.
