Día de Los Muertos Remembrance Community Walk, Celebration this Saturday

Toledo: The Sofia Quintero Art & Cultural Center and Saints Peter & Paul Parish present the Second Annual Día de Los Muertos Remembrance Community Walk on Saturday October 28, 2006, 9:00 a.m.

According to Joe Balderas, director of the Cultural Center, ‘community residents are invited to participate by meeting at the Community Garden next to the Cultural Center by 8:45 a.m. on Saturday.’ The Remembrance Community Walk will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Community Garden and will end at Saints Peter & Paul Church, where a special Mass will be held in memory of loved ones that have passed away. 

After the Mass, hot chocolate and pastries will be served at the Saints Peter & Paul Community Center. Participants are requested to bring photos, crosses, candles or items they wish to carry in the Remembrance Community Walk.

Later in the evening, from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m., the Sofia Quintero Art & Cultural Center, South Broadway, will celebrate its 10^th Anniversary by presenting its annual Día de Los Muertos Celebration Fundraiser. Viewing of the Día de Los Muertos altars (created by local residents and artists), entertainment, and a dance will be presented, along with traditional Mexican food and drinks. $25.00 per person at the door.
