While in High School she discovered the importance of her Latin heritage, learned Spanish, and developed a love and appreciation for Latin music.
Larissa remembers listening to Lisa Lisa on WDRQ 93.1FM and becoming infatuated with becoming a radio DJ. Many thought that radio wouldn’t be a good career choice so Larissa decided to enroll in Henry Ford Community College to major in computers.
After two semesters at Henry Ford, Larissa knew her heart was in radio so she decided to drop out to attend Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts. Larissa completed the television courses first and graduated in October of 2005. She continued her education at Specs Howard and completed the Radio Program and graduated in August of 2006.
While attending Specs Howard, Larissa competed with her classmates for an opportunity to get her commercial played on 94.7 WCSX and won. Her commercial was played regularly and put into rotation. Larissa has interned for WUDT 23 Univision Detroit and WKQI Channel 955’s Michelle Taylor.
Larissa’s passion for radio, her love for music/culture, and her will to assist Latinos in hip-hop the recognition they deserve, has driven her to start her own radio program which is the only program in Detroit to play Latin-hip-hop and reggaeton—the program is called Muevelo Detroit, which airs every Saturday from 10-11:00PM at WNZK 680AM, with DJ Onyx.
Larissa hopes to move her show to a FM station and wants Latinos in hip-hop and reggaeton to be recognized for the good music they produce. Larissa would love to see a world where Latin hip-hop and reggaeton is appreciated by all races and ages.
