ABLE and LAWO elect new board president and members

The boards of trustees for Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE) and Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO) recently elected attorney Laurie J. Pangle as their president.

Pangle, an attorney with Spengler Nathanson PLL in Toledo, attended the University of Michigan Honors College and received her Juris Doctorate from the Valparaiso University School of Law. She was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1983.

Pangle replaces William J. Bingle, who completed his second three-year term as board president in December. Bingle remains on the board as a trustee.

“As a board member, Laurie demonstrated a strong commitment to providing access to justice for low-income residents of northwest and west central Ohio,” says ABLE Executive Director Joe Tafelski. “We are confident Laurie will help lead efforts to bring more services to eligible residents.”

“My primary objective will be to strongly encourage every attorney to support legal aid-either financially or through pro bono service,” says Pangle.

The ABLE and LAWO boards of trustees also elected J. David Ruffner II, an attorney with Dayton-based Chernesky, Heyman & Kress PLL, as treasurer. Attorney Raymond M. Doniado, Jr., Doniado & Wagner LTD, Greenville; Terry Hart, Urbana; James L. Murray, Murray & Murray Co., Sandusky; and David S. Peterson, Xenia also were elected to serve three-year terms. Port Clinton resident Pat McGlothlin, was approved to return as a client member of the ABLE and LAWO boards.

Editor’s Note: ABLE and LAWO are non-profit law firms that provide free legal assistance in civil matters to low-income individuals and groups in a 32-county area of northwest and west central Ohio.
