A Transformative Talent Show on Dec. 8
Toledo North Side youth use their talents to engage and transform their communities and to “live out” the Community HeARTbeats Mural that was unveiled on October 14th 2006. This mural was informed and inspired by North Toledo youth and is scheduled to be installed outside the Stickney Banquet Hall, facing Stickney Avenue.
The show begins with youth alerting the audience to the dire consequences of prejudice, but they quickly move to an emphasis on their rich diversity. They underscore the importance of moving beyond tolerance and towards the development of a deep respect for the theme of a “common humanity.” They close with a powerful “call to action.”
The show, presented by Adelante in partnership with Human Values for Transformative Action, is followed by a photography exhibition organized by Professor Spencer Cunningham. Cunningham was instrumental in coordinating an effort to build the Jean Overton Art Gallery in North Toledo.
The event is free and open to the public. All donations will be used to support the holiday needs of a family adopted by Adelante Youth.
