Nominations sought for Third Annual CYE Youth Walk of Fame
Toledo: The Coalition for Youth Enrichment (CYE), in conjunction with The Community Partnership (The Partnership), is requesting nominations for the third annual CYE Youth Walk of Fame to be held in April 2007.
Steve Leggitt, a student representative of The University of Toledo on the CYE’s Walk of Fame planning committee, emphasized the need to highlight area youth who put others before themselves in an effort to create a better environment in which to live.
“We recognize through this Youth Walk of Fame that youth do make a difference,” Leggitt said.
CYE and The Partnership strive each year to recognize outstanding youth in these award categories: Service to Others, Personal Courage, Sharing Talents and Social Enterprise. Nominations may be submitted online at www.communityprevention.org on or before Friday, December 15, 2006; winners will be announced on April 16, 2007 in honor of National & Global Youth Service Day at a banquet to be held in their honor.
“The Youth Walk of Fame recognizes youth who are proven leaders, volunteers and strong achievers,” Kathy Schnapp, project manager for CYE said. “By recognizing and honoring these youth, we empower them to continue doing great things in and around the community. The nomination process is open to the public.”
Last year, three awards were given to exceptional youth within the Lucas County area—Taylor Adolph (for Personal Courage), Darren Wurz (for Service to Others), and Alyson Goodwin (for Sharing Talents).
Deacon Dzierzawski, CEO of The Partnership stated: “Our youth define our future and by supporting and encouraging them to continue working toward the betterment of the community at such a young age, we are helping create a healthier environment and a stronger leadership base for generations to come. The CYE Youth Walk of Fame is a great honor to bestow on such inspirational young people.”
The Partnership is a systemic coalition dedicated to creating an environment in which substance abuse is impacted. It is supported in part by the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Lucas County.
