On Tuesday, December 19th, 2006, Toledo Public Schools presented their annual Silver Slate Awards. The awards are given to community members or organizations that have donated time and effort to the students attending Toledo Public Schools.

The awards were presented at the monthly Board of Education meeting. Among the recipients was Joe Limón of Warren, Michigan. Joe was raised in Rossford, Ohio. He is now an employee of GM Portfolio Design Center in Warren.

Working with José Luna, Bilingual Education Coordinator for TPS, Limón has been sponsoring annual trips to the Portfolio Design Center. There, students shadow Latino professionals and tradespeople to learn what goes into the development of new vehicle innovations.

The career event has been a smashing success year after year. This will be the tenth year for the event. According to Luna, “We at Toledo Public Schools extend our gratitude to Joe for his compassion for TPS youth.”
