Democratic Caucus elects chairs for 110th Congress

WASHINGTON, DC: Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, Rahm Emanuel announced last week that the Democratic Caucus unanimously elected Chairs to 11 Standing House Committees.  Chairmen for all standing committees must be ratified by the full House of Representatives when U.S. Congress convenes in January for the 110th Congress.

The following members were elected by the Democratic Caucus to chair their respective committees:
 

Nydia Velázquez

  • Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez—the first Puerto Rican woman to serve in the House of Representatives of New York—as Chairwoman of the Small Business Committee.
  • Congressman John Conyers of Michigan as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee.
  • Congressman Ike Skelton of Missouri as Chairman of the Armed Services Committee.
  • Congressman Collin Peterson of Minnesota as Chairman of the Agriculture Committee.
  • Congressman Bart Gordon of Tennessee as Chairman of the Science Committee.
  • Congressman James Oberstar of Minnesota as Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
  • Congressman George Miller of California as Chairman of the Education and the Workforce Committee.
  • Congressman Henry Waxman of California as Chairman of the Government Reform Committee.
  • Congressman Tom Lantos of California as Chairman of the International Relations Committee.
  • Congressman Bennie Thompson of Mississippi as Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee.
  • Congressman Nick Rahall of West Virginia as Chairman of the Resources Committee.
