La Prensa’s Selected Endorsements for Ohio’s May 2 Primary

In no particular order (Michigan has no primary May 2)

Retain Toledo City Councilwoman Taylor Balderas for District 3—this BGSU grad is young but has the passion and skill necessary to represent District 3, as she has done since her appointment by Council in January. This is not a primary for Balderas but a special election on May 2.

Retain U.S. Councilwoman Marcy Kaptur, who has been a friend of Latinos for over 22 years; early on, she realized the dangers of NAFTA, CAFTA, and HR 4437 (the draconian Sensenbrenner-King immigrant-bashing, build-a-Berlin-wall, make-everyone-a-felon bill) and promptly voted against these proposals. In the Democratic primary on May 2nd, vote for Marcy Kaptur for Congress, representing District 9 (Lucas to Lorain County).

Ben Konop with attorney Roman Arce

In the Democratic primary, vote for Toledo-native Ben Konop for Lucas County Commissioner. Konop, a Democrat untainted by scandal, ran a hard and close race to replace U.S. Congressman Mike Oxley—who voted for HR 4437 and has since bowed out. Konop, who has voiced strong objections to HR 4437, is primed to energetically represent Lucas County as its third commissioner. Lucas County has had enough elections by victorious candidates subsequently tainted by scandal. Retain Phil Copeland on city council by voting for Ben Konop on May 2nd.

Vote for Issues 3 & 4 concerning the Toledo Zoo, a premier zoo in the United States. Don’t be complacent. Go to the polls on May 2nd and vote for the Elephants and their indigenous cousins, all of whom desperately need your vote.

For the U.S. Senate: If you are a Democrat, vote for Sherrod Brown for the U.S. Senate; Brown has ably represented the U.S. House of Representatives’ 13th District for many years and voted against HR 4437. If you are a voter electing in the Ohio Republican primary on May 2nd, retain Senator Mike DeWine as your candidate.
