Senator Mike DeWine’s deputy press secretary, Breann González, is Latina. Her father’s family is Huichol Indian.

 

Her father grew up in Tepic, Nayarit,  México.  When he was 11, the brother of his mother’s boss (she was a domestic servant, while his grandfather worked as part of the Bracero Program), adopted him and brought him to Warsaw, Ohio.

 

After graduating from high school, he attended Kent State, later becoming the first college grad in his family, and went on to get his Master’s degree. He is currently a high school Spanish teacher.

Breann completed her undergraduate studies at Butler University and is attending the Naval War College to receive her Master’s in National Security.  She worked for a few years as a news producer for an NBC affiliate in Fort Wayne, Indiana before joining Sen. DeWine’s Washington staff in 2004.
