Taft appoints three to OCHLA

On Dec. 17, Ohio Gov. Bob Taft made the following three appointment or reappointments to the Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs (OCHLA):

Richard Romero, from Lorain , was reappointed for a term ending October 7, 2007 . Mr. Romero has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Bowling Green State University and is Career Development Center Coordinator for Republic Technologies International/USWA Career Development Program.  

Maritza Pérez, from Strongsville , was reappointed for a term ending October 7, 2007 . Ms. Pérez has a Master of Science degree in Bilingual Special Education from Bank Street College of Education and Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Bilingual Education from State University of New York. Ms. Pérez is the Multicultural Programming Coordinator for Cleveland State University .

Ramona Reyes
, from Columbus , was appointed for a term ending October 7, 2007 , replacing Donna Alvarado, whose term expired. Ms. Reyes has a Bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University and is Senior Marketing Analyst at Nationwide Insurance, Sales Division.  

The Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs gathers and disseminates information and conducts hearings, conferences, investigations, and special studies on problems and programs concerning Spanish-speaking people; secures appropriate recognition of the accomplishments and contributions of Spanish-speaking people to the state; stimulates public awareness of the problems of Spanish-speaking people by conducting a program of public education; advises the governor, general assembly and state agencies of the nature, magnitude and priorities of the problems of Spanish speaking persons. Members are compensated $18.98 per hour, plus expenses, but rules prohibit any compensation for more than one day per month.
