Mud Hens clinch berth in championship series

Toledo OH, Sept. 11: The Toledo Mud Hens baseball team is heading to the International League Championship. The Hens won last Sunday, in a 5-3 victory over the Norfolk Tides in its game-five clincher, earning a berth in the championship series, the Governors’ Cup Final.

Sunday night’s win gives the Hens their first post-season series win since 1980, when they defeated Rochester in four games. Toledo plays Indianapolis in the Governors’ Cup Final, which began Tuesday at Fifth Third Field in Toledo.

Wil Ledezma

Toledo southpaw Wil Ledezma earned the win Sunday night by going 5.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits and three walks while striking out two. The bullpen followed with four solid innings; John Ennis pitching out of a jam in the sixth while Mark Woodyard contributed two shutout innings, striking out four, and Jason Karnuth claimed his third save of the post-season with a 1-2-3 ninth.
