Letter to the Editor:

One of my concerns, as a Latino Voter, in choosing a candidate for Mayor of Toledo is whether the person is sensitive to issues that face our Latino Community.

Candidate Carty Finkbeiner’s past Administration included many excellent Latino leaders in key roles. Some of these public servants were: Lourdes Santiago, Robert Torres, Arturo Quintero, Baldemar Velásquez, Judge Joseph A. Flores, Lisa Canales-Flores, Sylvia Muñiz-Mutchler, and Consuelo Hernández, to name a few.

1

As a Latino Voter, I not only consider past accomplishments but the candidate’s continuing commitment to the Latino Community. Carty recognizes this as an exciting time for Latinos as many families have become second generation citizens and taking leadership roles in their communities and in their government.

Carty sees a bright, challenging future helping Latinos overcome such issues as:  the high drop-out rate among our Latino students, the lack of good paying jobs, and, most recently, the increase in utility rates.

As Carty S. Finkbeiner looks to return to the Office of Mayor of Toledo he looks to the Latino Community to continue shaping the future of our city. His Administration will focus on creating a pro-jobs environment and a strong education system to help the Latino community to a brighter future—a future where families can support themselves and plan their brighter future.

The campaign slogan, Carty Gets Results, is in the same tradition as the hard working Latino Community. We will both work hard together, with our civic leaders, to restore jobs and a strong education system to the City of Toledo to create a bright future for our Latino Youth!

Sincerely,

Marisol Ibarra

Toledo, Ohio
