Granholm appoints Pablo Cortes district court judge

LANSING: Governor Jennifer M. Granholm last week announced the appointment of Pablo Cortes as judge of the 62-A District Court which serves the city of Wyoming.

Cortes most recently served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office.  As part of his duties as assistant prosecutor, he spoke with local students and residents about the law. 

Prior to joining the prosecutor’s office ten years ago, Cortes was a legal associate at Roberts, Betz and Bloss, P.C., now Betz and Bloss, P.C., and a teacher in the Detroit Public Schools.

He recently became a member of the American Inns of Court, a group of judges, lawyers, law professors, and law students who meet to hold programs and discussions on matters of ethics, skills, and professionalism.

Cortes earned his law degree from Wayne State University Law School and B.A. from the University of Michigan.

Cortes’ term will commence on October 17 and expires January 1, 2007.
