Martínez encourages Latinos to get involved in the Democratic process

John Martínez is the treasurer of the Hispanic/Latino Caucus of the Lucas County Democratic Party. He was born and raised in the county, graduating from Clay High School in Oregon, Ohio. He has been a Crafts Tech since then, working for Hansen Machine & Tool for thirty years, followed by ALCOA.

Being a member of the UAW, he got involved in politics at an early age.

“I see politics as being very important to our community, especially if you are Latino. With elections for our president in January, one may consider joining us.

“The Caucus will nominate a new president at our next meeting on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 10:00AM at the Lucas County Democratic Headquarters on Madison Avenue.

“Bob Torres, who has been an excellent president, is stepping down so that he can spend more time in his role as a newly elected member of the Toledo Board of Education,” said Martínez.

Martínez is a member of Latinos United and several Masonic organizations. He was a former board member of the Guadalupe Center.

His interests include: spending time with his wife of almost 40 years, Lola López, and golfing. He is the father of three children. His parents are Tejano, his grandparents from México.

Martínez is shown in the back row, far left, in the photo above, which was taken at a Caucus meeting last May.
