To the Editor of La Prensa:

“BUY A PAPER, MISTER?” 

You will hear this cry all over Toledo, Ohio and the surrounding Communities on December 09, 2005—that is the date for the Old Newsboys Goodfellow Association annual paper/sale drive.

Old Newsboys accept donations, and sell an annual newspaper to provide coats, shoes, scholarships, and food baskets for needy families. One-hundred percent of the money raised in these endeavors is used toward the stated purpose, with no payment to any person, corporation, or other entity.

I know first hand of this charitable work, because as a child growing in the 1950s, my brother and I were newsboys.

When Christmas time rolled around, our distributor brought coats, shoes, boots, and gloves from the Newsies, not only for us, but for the entire family.

With our parents struggling to raise eight kids, this was very welcome help. 

 I’ve never forgotten and  I’m a proud life member of and regular contributor to this fine organization.

So, please when you hear “BUY A PAPER, MISTER?” dig deep and be generous.
