NOBMA hosts third media-access workshop

The Third Media Access Workshop was presented last Saturday at the Kent Branch Toledo-Lucas County Public Library by the Northwest Black Media Association (NOBMA), with presentations by Alexis Means (WTVG-TV, 13 Action News reporter), Kelly Norwood, Fletcher Word (The Sojourner’s Truth, co-publisher, editor, and writer), and Clyde Hughes (The Blade, Urban Affairs Reporter), followed by a journalists’ roundtable.

Fletcher Word, co-publisher and editor of Sojourner’s Truth, with Clyde Hughes of The Blade.

1.

NOBMA was created in 1990 to assist minority journalists and students of journalism.

Methods of writing effective press releases and conducting effective press conferences were discussed. Numerous organizations were present. All of the speakers agreed that to maximize access to the press via a press release, individuals/organizations should keep the releases simple but be certain to describe the “who, where, when, what, and why” of the event in question.
