1About the author of this four-part series  

Laurie A. Gomulka Palazzolo is a native and resident of Detroit .  She holds a B.S. in Paralegal Studies/Business Administration from Madonna University ( Livonia , MI ) and a M.A. in English/Business-Professional- Technical Writing from Wayne State University ( Detroit ).  She is the author of Horn Man: The Polish-American Musician in Twentieth-Century Detroit, released in October 2003, with distribution through Wayne State University Press, and the writer/director/editor of the forthcoming (September 2005) documentary film, Dom Polski:  Dance Hall Days of Detroit’s Polonia.  Her grandparents were immigrant Polish-Americans, who resided in Detroit ’s west side Michigan Avenue-Martin neighborhood.  She has a deep love for the historic Dom Polski cultural hall on Junction and Michigan Avenues and, as executive director of the newly formed West Side Detroit Dom Polski Historical Society, is working toward preserving the historic structure and listing it on the National Register of Historic Places.  She can be reached at 248.477.8518 or [email protected].
