Grammy winner David Lee Garza headlines LatinoFestV

LatinoFestV continues to bring the best of Latino entertainment, food, arts & culture, and vendors to downtown Toledo ’s Promenade Park on Saturday, June 11 from noon to 11:00 p.m. and on Sunday, June 12 from noon to 7:00 p.m.  

David Lee Garza of Los Musicales, based in Poteet TX , collaborated in a CD project with Joel Guzman and Sunny Sauceda to win the 2005 Grammy award in the Tejano Band Recording category; Garza will appear Saturday night beginning at 9:00 p.m.

Saturday’s line-up also features Alofoque from Boston , Massachusetts playing the new genre of music called Reggaeton which is a blend of Reggae and Salsa music that has hit mainstream America in a big way this year.  Oro Solido from New York will also be on hand to play merengue. 

Explosion Latina features dancers directly from Brazil to offer their music and style of dancing.  The day also includes Vizion from Toledo with norteño music; Somos Tres with Hip-Hop with a Latino theme; Dejavu from Columbus , Ohio playing Latino pop, rock, and funk.

Sunday’s line-up highlights regional Tejano and norteño bands including Dezeo from Pontiac, Michigan; Bad Boys of Adrian, Michigan; Energía from Detroit, Michigan; Invenzible from Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Maximo from Toledo.

  • Also, back by popular demand is master mask maker Kenneth Meléndez from Ponce , Puerto Rico .  Meléndez will be on hand both days with a display of his mask creations and with art projects for those in attendance.

  • Autograph sessions with professional boxers Devin and Dallas Vargas on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • Mercy Health Partners is sponsoring the health pavilion, providing healthcare information in Spanish.

  • The Sofia Quintero Arts and Cultural Center in partnership with The Toledo Museum of Art will conduct Latino art activities.

Tickets to the event can be purchased at the door for $7. Children 12 and under are free.
