ROI honors Urrutia and Gómez

Last Monday, Rural Opportunities, Inc, based in New York , celebrated the 20 anniversary of ROI in Ohio by honoring its director Michal E. Urrutia and staff member Viola M. Gómez, at the French Quarter in Perrysburg , Ohio .

According to ROI president, Stuart J. Mitchell,  “Michal Urrutia has dedicated twenty years to improving the lives of farmworkers and her diligence has been instrumental in the expansion of ROI programs in Ohio .”

Urrutia, born in San Antonio , is the mother of three and grandmother of four. As an adult student, she obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Lourdes College in Sylvania .

Gómez, also from Texas , became a farmworker at the age of nine. She is the mother of six and has seven grandchildren. In the 1970s she became a farmworker advocate for migrant families and in 1982 was employed by the Texas Migrant Council as a teacher’s aide in Harlingen, before transferring to Pandora, Ohio in 1986 and then joining ROI in 1986.

La Revancha of Bowling Green entertained.
