Lorain’s Mexican Mutual Society is looking for little girls of Mexican descent to vie for the 2008 Cinco de Mayo celebration and parade. The girls must be between 5-9 years old. The contest starts Feb. 9, 2008 and she will be crowned at the Cinco de Mayo program and baile, which is after the parade. Our family would love to honor our son with his 12th birthday announcement in La Prensa. Vincent Vargas Jr. was born December 28, 1995 to Vincent Sr. and Joan Vargas. He is a member of the professional folkloric dance group El Corazón de México, he attends Blessed Sacrament Church, and Vincent plays baseball and basketball. He is a student at Hiawatha Elementary and is a member of the orchestra playing the bass.
Vincent Jr. is the grandson of Ray, Blaise Vargas & Medford, Phyllis (belated) Krieger. He has two sisters, Kathleen & Cassandra. Vincent Jr. is very sentimental and offers greatness to the world with his fun loving spirit. He loves Mexican dance and loves to see everyone smiling. We love him very much. HAPPY BIRTHDAY “Bud”!

Mrs. Kim Grilliot, Principal of Notre Dame Academy, announced that Seniors, Nadine Ajaka, Shannon Desmond, and Monica Guisfredi have been named Commended Students in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to these scholastically talented seniors.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2008 competition for National Merit Scholarships, Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.4 million students who entered the 2008 competition by taking the 2006 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

El Corazón de México as the folkloric dance group appeared at Festival Latino in Columbus on June 16, 2007. El Corazón de México is hosting a Mexican Dinner Fundraiser on Friday, July 27, 2007, from 5:00 to 9:00PM, at the Northwood, Ohio VFW Post 2984, located at 102 W. Andrus Road. There will be a performance by El Corazón de México at 7:00PM, along with 50/50 Raffles. Antonio and Rita Vallejo of Toledo, Ohio celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at Walbridge Park with family and friends. They were married on May 23, 1947. They have been blessed with 8 children, 31 grandchildren, & 49 great-grandchildren. On May 29, 2007, at the Toledo Public School’s Board of Education Tuesday meeting, Emilio Ramírez, Director of TPS Pupil Placement, was named principal of Woodward High School, which is located in north Toledo.
