Upward Bound Program at Lourdes aids in student success

Nominations sought for Natural Resources Assistance Council in Lucas County

The Natural Resources Assistance Council (NRAC) is an 11-member committee that evaluates applications for and allocates grants from the Clean Ohio Fund in Lucas County. The council is seeking nominations to fill one vacancy and serve a three-year term.

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library is issuing an official challenge for kids in preschool through 12th grade in the Toledo area. If 300 young people join the Library’s 2008 Summer Reading Club: Catch the Reading Bug! by August 2, 2008, Jessica Agocs, a librarian at Birmingham Branch Library, says she will eat a chocolate-covered grasshopper or ant. 


Adelante, Inc. hosted a Latino Community Leadership Meeting on June 27, 2008 at the Fifth Third headquarters in Toledo. Josh Flores, Adelante’s board chair and Sonia Troche, its executive director, updated the leaders concerning:  “¿Que Pasa Latino?”

¡Lorain International Festival was fantastico!

It’s a festival that celebrates worldwide diversity. This year, nine Latinas said they were proud to represent the Latino community as Queen and Princesses of the 42nd Annual Lorain International Festival and Bazaar. Another Latina has been involved with the festival for over a decade.

COLUMBUS, June 22, 2008 (AP): Rising food and fuel prices are making it more difficult for Ohio food banks to purchase enough food, just as pantries and soup kitchens across the state are seeing an uptick in visitors because of the slowing economy.

Cuyahoga County Board of Elections invites the Public to Voter Education Events

Cleveland: Extremely high voter turnout is expected for the November 4, 2008 Presidential Election. The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections (CCBOE) wants all voters to be prepared to vote. The CCBOE is inviting the public to attend voter education presentations being held throughout the county. The Board of Elections staff is offering voter registration information, Vote-by-Mail/Absentee ballot applications, Election Day Poll Worker applications, and general information about the services provided by the CCBOE.
