Campaign for Migrant Worker Justice Launches Migrant Mobile Clinics

With the backing of the Farm Labor Organizing Committee, the Campaign for Migrant Worker Justice (CMWJ) conducted this year’s first in a series of Mobile Migrant Clinics. CMWJ’s clinic is now in its 30th year taking medical services directly to this underserved population. Medical director Dr. Richard Paat sees this as a challenge because of the Covid-19 threat to these workers. With the cooperation of the Wood County Health Department, the clinic was able to utilize their nasal pharyngeal tests for the Covid-19 virus. The necessity of these clinics was underscored by the fact that other illnesses were discovered that the workers were unaware of. Two had serious diabetes, another with kidney stones, and some serious nasal infections. State health officials are coordinating with the clinic and local health department.
