Bobby Seale, national organizer of the Blank Panther Party, to speak Feb. 27 at BGSU

BOWLING GREEN, OH: Bobby Seale, political activist and founding chairman/national organizer of the Black Panther Party, will speak at Bowling Green State University’s 20th annual Black Issues Conference Feb. 27, 2020.

The conference offers a forum for research and discussion of African-American culture and issues impacting the African-American community. This year’s conference theme is Words Into Action: Power, Expression and Activism.

Seale is a 50-year-plus African-American social change activist and founding chairman/national organizer of the Black Panther Party. Born in Dallas in 1936, his early 1960s activist life was influenced by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, and Malcolm X. By the end of 1968, Seale had organized and created coalitions with all peoples of color, civil rights organizations and those in the anti-Vietnam War movement to advocate for greater electoral empowerment of an “All Power to the All the People” movement.

Part of the University’s annual “Beyond the Dream” series, the conference will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Lenhart Grand Ballroom of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union. Seale’s keynote presentation will begin at 11:30 a.m.

Registration at bgsu.edu/bic is required for this event.
