is trying to make sure 25 families will have a full Thanksgiving
meal by hosting a Thanksgiving Fundraiser on Wednesday,
Nov. 20, 2019, beginning at 5:30PM, at La Fiesta
Restaurant, 1406 S. Reynolds Rd., Maumee, OH. According to
Linda Parra, its president, “Your $20 donation, includes
a plate of Mexican food and a soft drink.”

The city of
Toledo Department of Neighborhood and Business Development
hosts its annual luncheon for the homeless and under-housed from
11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019 at
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral
Banquet Hall, 740 North Superior St., Toledo.
The luncheon provides a holiday turkey dinner for homeless and less
fortunate people throughout the city. The luncheon is provided
by the Neighborhood and Business Development Department, local
retail stores, the business sector, and community partners such
as homeless service providers, food banks, and food kitchens.

and provides volunteers to assist.

assembled Monday, Nov. 25, 2016. Families are then
invited to come to the social hall at 706 S. St. Clair Street,
Toledo, to pick up a traditional meal with turkey and the

days later of another Thanksgiving tradition—the annual Ohio
State-Michigan Football viewing party on Saturday, Nov. 30
at noon. The potluck luncheon is always accompanied by the

screen, while fans dress in the colors of their favorite team.
50-50 drawings and a silent auction are mainstays of the
fun-filled event, which raises funds for the Spanish American

Voces Latinas, the Sofia Quintero Art and Cultural
Center (SQACC), and Inspire Multi-Media Solutions are
joining forces to present Noche de Velitas (Night of the
Candles) on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019.
According to tradition in Colombia, loved ones and strangers alike
gather to light candles, signifying their hopes, dreams, and
wishes for the upcoming year. While the tradition began as a
religious holiday, the event has evolved to become a Colombian
cultural event that signifies love, family, and friendship. As
Noche de Velitas celebrates the Immaculate Conception of
Mary, a dinner and dance at SQACC, 1225 Broadway, Toledo, that
evening also will open the Christmas season.
Tickets are $40 in advance, $45 at the door. The Dec. 7 evening
event will feature a Colombian Christmas dinner and
entertainment from Sammy DeLeón y Su Orchesta [Salsa].
