Fall harvest provides Family-Friendly Fun events

By La Prensa Staff

Family fun during the month of October include the following, as reported to La Prensa:

The Sofia Quintero Art and Cultural Center (SQACC), 1222 Broadway St., will host a Harvest Fest on Friday, Oct. 4, 2019, 5 to 7 p.m. The nonprofit will celebrate the harvest from its community gardens by hosting a meal made primarily from the produce and herbs grown this planting season. The menu includes a creamy tomato basil soup with all the ingredients harvested from the gardens, along with homemade bread, salad, and a dessert of strawberries and blueberries from the garden.  There will be Latin background music, yard games for kids and adults, and a cash bar. A meal donation of $7 per person will be collected at the door.

An Old South End Fall Festival is being planned by Nuestra Gente Community Projects Inc., on Saturday, Oct. 12, 4 to 10 p.m., at 1411 Broadway St., Toledo, the same location where the Barrio Latino Arts Festival is held each summer. As of press time, organizers were still looking for non-profit groups and businesses to become sponsors and vendors.

Latino children and families will have an opportunity to meet some of their favorite public media characters at Be My Neighbor Day, to be held at Walbridge Park on Saturday, Oct. 19, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. WGTE Public Media is bringing in Daniel Tiger, Katerina Kittycat, and Abracadabra mascots to help teach young children the importance of being a caring neighbor.
