acclaimed musicians to perform in May 24 concert at the TMA
TOLEDO: For several decades, a pair of composers from Maumee,
Ohio and Austria have collaborated on albums, museum
exhibitions, concerts, and music festivals across the globe.
Later this month, the pair will return to the Toledo Museum
of Art (TMA) at 7 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2019 for a concert
in the Little Theater.
and Tim Story are performing in conjunction with
“Everything is Rhythm”: Mid-Century Art & Music. The
exhibition in the New Media Gallery pairs a selection of
20th-century abstract paintings with a carefully curated musical
composition. “They produce beautiful melodic lines and
electronic backgrounds that are very beguiling,” explained
Scott Boberg, TMA’s manager of programming and audience
engagement. “People love the atmosphere of their compositions.”
In 2017, Story transformed TMA's GlasSalon into an
eight-channel, multi-sensory installation called The
Roedelius Cells—Story's own radical reworking of recordings
he made of Roedelius at the piano.
One of Story's “cells” is included in “Everything is Rhythm”
and during this concert, Roedelius and Story will perform
selections from Cells and their collaborative project
Lunz as well as some electronic improv and solo piano works.
There will be a meet and greet with Roedelius and Story
following the concert. A selection of their solo and
collaborative recordings will be available for purchase.
Tickets are $12 for members, $16 for nonmembers and $8 for
students and military. For more information or to purchase
tickets visit toledomuseum.org. It’s Friday! activities
are sponsored in part by Fifth Third Bank.
